How do I check the network connectivity for PAX?

How to run a ping/connectivity test on PAX S300 or Q25 payment terminals before opening at Shift4 locations.

๐Ÿ“‹ Overview

For Shift4-integrated locations, we strongly recommend a quick connectivity check on your PAX payment terminals (S300 or Q25) before opening each day.

PAX terminals run on their own LAN connection, separate from the Mashgin kiosk. Your kiosk can appear online while the payment terminal is not โ€” so verify the terminal's network status ahead of time to prevent transaction disruptions and ensure batches process at the end of the event.

Step 1. Open the terminal menu

Press the Menu button and enter the password (MMDDYYYY). If the date passcode isn't accepted, try 08485488.

Step 2. Open COMM Settings

Use the down arrow to select COMM Settings, then enter the password again.

Step 3. Run the ping test

  1. Scroll down to LAN Parameters and press Enter.
  1. Scroll down to PING and press Enter.
  1. It should auto-populate with www.google.com.
  1. Press the Enter (green) key to run the test.

Step 4. Read the result

  • Ping OK โ†’ the terminal is connected and ready.
  • Ping fails โ†’ there may be a network issue. Coordinate with your onsite IT team to troubleshoot.

Re-establishing connectivity before doors open โ€” and giving the terminal time to attempt a batch if needed โ€” is essential for accurate reporting and reconciliation.
