How to Hibernate the Kiosk

Step-by-step guide to closing or hibernating a Mashgin kiosk at the end of the day.

πŸ“‹ Overview

This article explains how to put a Mashgin kiosk into hibernation mode β€” a state that disables customer checkout without fully powering down the device. While hibernated, the kiosk displays a Kiosk Closed screen to customers, and items can't be added to a checkout cart until a manager wakes the kiosk back up.

πŸ›Œ How do I hibernate the kiosk?

To hibernate the kiosk complete the following steps:

  • Log into Manager Mode
  • Press Hibernate on the screen

Alternative: If your location has a staff-facing second display, you can also hibernate the kiosk via the Staff Screen app.

πŸ’‘ What are the benefits of hibernating vs. turning the kiosk off?

Hibernation mode closes the kiosk to customer checkout without fully powering down the device. This matters for two reasons:

  • Updates can still go through β€” critical software updates are not blocked while the kiosk is hibernated.
  • Remote support stays possible β€” if something is wrong with the kiosk, our Support team can still troubleshoot it remotely, while preventing customers from using it in the meantime.

πŸ“… How often should I hibernate the kiosk?

We recommend hibernating the kiosk at the end of the day or event as part of your regular closing procedures.

πŸ”“ How do I open the kiosk again after hibernating?

To bring the kiosk back online for customer checkout:

  1. Log back into Manager Mode
  1. Press the Wake button β€” it appears in the same spot where the Hibernate button was

The kiosk returns to its normal checkout state immediately. No power cycle or additional steps required.
