How the Shift4 payment gateway integrates with Mashgin kiosks using PAX readers — requirements, store-and-forward offline payments, and vendor support.
📋 Overview
Shift4 is a payment gateway that uses PAX card readers. This guide covers the checkout flow, requirements, supported features, and vendor support.
🛒 Checkout Flow
- Customer places item(s) on the base of the kiosk.
- Customer uses a credit/debit card or tap-to-pay on the PAX reader to complete the transaction.
✅ Requirements
- Shift4 requires PAX Q25, or PAX A35 devices pre-loaded with the Shift4 configuration.
- The PAX devices must use the same network as the kiosk, and each device needs a static IP address so our software can connect to it.
✨ Supported Features
Store and Forward (offline payments): Transactions accepted while the payment device is offline enter the SAF queue. Once the device is back online, Mashgin routinely checks whether the payment was successfully uploaded and accepted by Shift4 for up to 10 days. If a transaction is not uploaded and/or approved within 10 days, it is uploaded to Cloud as REJECTED.
