How to Change the Kiosk Sleep Interval in Creator
Adjust how long a kiosk waits before going to sleep, configured per-location in Creator's location settings. Default is 10 minutes.
๐ Overview
The Sleep Interval is the number of minutes a kiosk stays idle before going to sleep. Once asleep, the kiosk dims its screen until a customer walks up or interacts with it. The setting is per location โ every kiosk at that location uses the same interval.
When to change this:
- You want the kiosk screen to stay awake longer during peak hours
- You want kiosks to sleep faster overnight to save power and prevent burn-in
- A customer-facing complaint: "the screen kept going dark before I could finish"
๐ How to Change the Sleep Interval
Step 1. Navigate to Creator and pick your location
- Go to creator.mashgin.com and log in
- In the left sidebar, find the location you want to update
Step 2. Open the Location's settings
- Click the Settings icon (โ๏ธ) next to the Location Name
- The location settings panel opens โ Sleep Interval is one of several kiosk-related fields here

Step 3. Adjust the Sleep Interval
- Find the Sleep Interval field in the settings panel
- Type the desired value in minutes (whole numbers)

Default: the kiosk enters sleep mode after 10 minutes of idle time. Most operators find 5โ15 minutes is a good range.
Step 4. Save Changes
- Click Save Changes at the bottom of the settings panel
- The new interval propagates to every kiosk at that location within 1โ2 minutes
- Kiosks already in mid-transaction finish that transaction first โ the new interval applies on the next idle cycle

๐ก Tips
- Sleep Interval is per-location, not per-kiosk. Every kiosk at the same location runs the same interval. If you have multiple locations and want them all the same, repeat the change at each.
- Shorter intervals save power and prevent screen burn-in โ useful overnight or for low-traffic sites.
- Longer intervals = always-on feel โ useful for events, demos, or ultra-high-traffic windows.
- No effect during a transaction. The countdown only runs on idle screens; an in-progress order won't sleep mid-checkout.
๐ ๏ธ Troubleshooting
The kiosk is still sleeping at the old interval
Issue: You saved a new Sleep Interval but the kiosk still goes to sleep at the previous time.
Fix:
- Wait 1โ2 minutes for the change to propagate, then test again
- Confirm you saved on the correct location โ settings are scoped per location
- Enter Manage Mode on the kiosk and press Sync DB to force a refresh
- If the kiosk has been offline, the new value will apply once it reconnects
The Sleep Interval field is grayed out or missing
Issue: You can't type into the Sleep Interval field, or you don't see it in location settings.
Fix:
- Confirm your Creator user has location-edit permissions โ read-only users can view but not change settings
- Refresh Creator (โ + R / Ctrl + R) to reload the panel
- If the field is still missing, contact support โ your role may need to be updated
Kiosk never sleeps
Issue: The kiosk screen stays awake well past the configured interval.
Fix:
- Verify the value you entered โ a very high number (e.g.
999) effectively keeps the kiosk awake
- Confirm the kiosk is online and synced โ a kiosk that hasn't pulled the latest settings will keep using the old behavior
- Cycle the kiosk and recheck after 1โ2 minutes of idle time
