What is a Global Match?

An overview of Global Matches in Creator — what they are, how to view them in Creator and on the Kiosk, and how to update the Global Match associated with an item.

📋 What is a Global Match?

Global Matches are the poses (pictures) attached to items in your menu that allow the kiosk to visually recognize them at checkout. Each Global Match has a unique ID, and the same Global Match can be shared across many locations — when one location adds new poses, every location using that Global Match ID benefits.

🔍 How to View Global Matches

In Creator

Navigate to the item you want to inspect and open the item editor.

The Global Match ID and the Global Match name are shown directly below the Tags field.

On the Kiosk

Go into Manager Mode → Items, then search for the item by name and select it.

You'll see the Global Match ID at the top of the panel (next to the 🌐 icon) along with all the poses currently attached to that Global Match.

🔄 How to Update a Global Match

Global Matches are updated by adding a UPC code to an item. Once a UPC is saved — from Creator — the Global Match is assigned to that item automatically.

  1. Go to creator.mashgin.com and open the item in the item editor.
  1. Find the UPCs field.
  1. Enter the item's UPC code and save the item.
  1. Once the kiosk syncs (within a couple of minutes), the Global Match is assigned automatically.
‼️

If the incorrect Global Match is applied reach out to Mashgin Support for assistance.

💡 Tips

  • A Global Match needs at least 20 poses for the kiosk to confidently recognize the item — see Global Match Color Coding for what the color indicators mean.
  • If an item has a dotcode assigned, it should not also have a Global Match. Reach out to Mashgin Support if you need a Global Match removed from a dotcoded item.
  • Adding the same UPC across multiple locations links them to the same Global Match — so when one location adds new poses, every location using that Global Match benefits.
