How do I resolve a scale sticking?

Steps to fix a kiosk scale that won't reset to zero after items are removed, including checking the Hold function, physical interference, the shipping screw, and scale leveling.

๐Ÿ“‹ Overview

When a kiosk scale "sticks," the displayed weight does not return to zero after an item is taken off. The kiosk will still think there's an item on the scale and won't behave correctly during checkout. This guide walks through the four most common causes and how to address each.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1. Check the Hold function

The Hold function freezes the displayed number on the scale's blue indicator display. If Hold is toggled on, the scale will remember the heaviest weight placed on it โ€” even after the item is removed โ€” so the kiosk continues to register an item on the scale.

To turn Hold off, press the Hold button on the top-left of the blue display.

Step 2. Check for physical interference

Remove the cover from the top of the scale and inspect inside. Look for any cables that may be pressing against internal components, which can prevent the scale from returning to zero.

After re-securing the cover, remember to Tare the scale so it re-zeroes correctly.

Step 3. Remove the shipping screw

The shipping screw, located on the bottom of the scale, is only meant to keep the scale steady during transit. If it's still installed, the scale's accuracy will be off and the weight may change depending on item position.

Flip the scale and confirm the shipping screw has been removed.

Step 4. Ensure the scale is level

An unlevel scale can produce inconsistent readings.

  • Look at the leveling bubble on the top of the scale (under the cover).
  • Confirm the bubble is centered within its hole.
  • Adjust the scale's feet by tightening or loosening them until level.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

  • Always Tare the scale after any physical adjustment.
  • If the scale continues to stick after all four steps, the issue may be hardware-related โ€” escalate to support.
