How do I add signage to the kiosk?
Explains the different signage options available for the Mashgin kiosk — including tower stickers and placement guides — and provides step-by-step instructions for applying them correctly.
📋 Overview
Signage helps your customers understand how to use the kiosk and encourages adoption. This guide covers the different signage options available and how to apply them to your kiosk.
🖼️ Signage Options Available
Step 1. Review the signage options
Mashgin offers four main types of on-kiosk signage to help customers understand your self-checkout experience:
- Kiosk Tower Stickers (11 x 17) — Placed on the "neck" (narrow section) at the front of your kiosk. Show customers what to do step-by-step. Available in English and bilingual (English/Spanish) versions.

- Place Items Arrow Cutout Tower Sign: PDF / Adobe Illustrator
🛠️ How to Apply Signage
Step 1. Gather your materials
✓ Your chosen sticker(s) or printed signage
✓ Clean, dry cloth or paper towel
✓ Isopropyl alcohol or mild soap and water
✓ Squeegee or credit card (for smooth application)
✓ Ruler or measuring tape (optional, for precise placement)
Step 2. Prepare the kiosk surface
- Clean the surface where the sticker will go:
- Wipe with a damp cloth using mild soap and water
- Or use isopropyl alcohol on a dry cloth
- Remove all dust, dirt, and sticky residue
- Dry completely with a lint-free cloth before proceeding
Important: A clean, dry surface ensures the sticker adheres properly and lasts longer.
Step 3. Position the sticker
- Decide placement:
- Neck stickers go on the front "neck" (narrow section) of the kiosk, centered and at eye level
- Placement guides go on or near the scale area
- Arrow stickers are placed to direct customer flow
- Dry position first: Hold the sticker in place (don't stick yet) to make sure it's straight and centered
- Check alignment: Use a ruler or measure by eye to ensure the sticker is level
Placement tip: Stand back 3–4 feet away and check that the sticker looks centered and properly aligned from a customer's viewing angle.
Step 4. Apply the sticker
- Peel back one corner of the backing (top or side, depending on sticker size)
- Slowly remove the backing as you press the sticker onto the kiosk surface, working from one end to the other
- Smooth out bubbles using a squeegee or credit card:
- Start at the center and work outward
- Use firm, even pressure
- Avoid creating wrinkles
- Press the edges firmly for at least 5–10 seconds to ensure adhesion
Pro tip: If you see bubbles, gently lift that section and reapply. It’s easier to fix before the adhesive fully sets.
💡 Tips for Success
- Use the right location: Place signage where customers naturally look when approaching the kiosk
- Go bilingual: If your location has non-English speaking customers, use bilingual stickers
- Less is more: One or two well-placed stickers are more effective than covering the entire kiosk
🛠️ Troubleshooting
Sticker Won't Stick or Has Bubbles
Issue: The sticker isn't adhering properly or has air bubbles underneath.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Check that the surface was completely dry before applying
- If the sticker is new, remove it carefully and reapply with better pressure
- Use a squeegee or credit card to push out air pockets from the center outward
- For persistent bubbles, gently poke a small hole with a needle, smooth flat, and press firmly
- If the sticker still won't stick, the surface may have oils or residue — clean with isopropyl alcohol and try again
Sticker Is Peeling at the Edges
Issue: The edges of the sticker are lifting or peeling up.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Clean the lifted edge with a dry cloth
- Carefully lift the edge, clean both surfaces, and press back down firmly for 10+ seconds
- If the sticker is damaged, consider replacing it with a new one
- Ensure the kiosk surface itself is smooth (rough or damaged surfaces won't hold stickers well)
Sticker Faded or Discolored
Issue: The sticker has faded from sun exposure or environmental conditions.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- This is normal wear and tear — signage typically lasts 6–12 months depending on location
- Order a replacement sticker from Mashgin
- Remove the old sticker by gently peeling from a corner, clean any remaining adhesive with isopropyl alcohol
- Apply the new sticker following the steps above
