How do I enable age verification?
How to activate age verification on a Mashgin kiosk, choose the right verification flow, and tag menu items so age-restricted products trigger the verification process at checkout.
🪪 Overview
Mashgin supports two types of age verification depending on your location type. Both require activation by Mashgin Support before use. Once active, tag any age-restricted items in Creator with age-verification-required to trigger the verification flow at checkout.

🏟️ General Age Verification (Stadiums)
Used at stadium and event venues. Staff verify the customer's age visually and use an Age Verification QR Code to approve the transaction — no ID scanner required.
- Customer places an age-restricted item on the kiosk
- The kiosk displays an Age Verification Required banner, pausing checkout
- A staff member approaches and visually checks the customer's ID
- Staff scans the Age Verification QR Code on the kiosk screen to approve
- Customer proceeds to payment
🏪 ID Scanning Age Verification (C-Stores)
Used at convenience stores and similar locations. A more robust flow that requires staff to open a verification modal and confirm the customer's identity by scanning their ID or entering their date of birth.
- Customer places an age-restricted item on the kiosk
- The kiosk displays an Age Verification Required banner, pausing checkout
- Staff selects “Verify Age” on their staff screem
- Staff verifies the customer's ID
- Staff unlocks checkout by scanning the customer's ID barcode or entering their date of birth
- Customer proceeds to payment
🏷️ Tagging Items
In Creator, tag all age-restricted items with:
age-verification-required
This tag applies to both verification types.
