Kiosk and SideUX Disassembly
Step-by-step guide for safely disassembling the Mashgin kiosk and SideUX unit, including hardware removal, cable disconnection, and reassembly preparation.
๐ Overview
This article covers the full disassembly process for the Mashgin kiosk and SideUX unit. You may need to disassemble the unit for hardware replacement, shipping, or maintenance purposes.
Before you begin: Power off the kiosk completely and disconnect it from the power source before disassembling any hardware.
Required tools:
- 1/4" Ratchet
- 10mm 1/4" Socket
- Small or Long Phillips Screwdriver
- Box Cutter
๐ฉ Kiosk Disassembly
Step 1. Shutdown and Unplug Peripherals
- Access the Advanced menu in Manager Mode and tap the Shut Down button
- Wait until the power button LED light turns off to confirm the unit is fully powered down
- Unplug all USB, HDMI, and power cables from the back of the kiosk
- Set the SideUX power switch to the Off position
- Unplug the SideUX power cable

Step 2. Remove the Hood Assembly
- Remove SteroCam 1's cover
- Remove the back cover
- Unplug all USB and HDMI cables from the MPU and remove the speakers
- Remove all 4 10mm nuts
- Remove the two 10mm bolts holding the hood to the tower assembly โ use one hand to support the hood while removing the last bolt
- Carefully lift the hood off and package it back into the shipping box
- If available, place the internal shipping foam inside the MPU to secure the GPU components during shipment
- Place the back cover back on and secure it with the 6 screws
Support the hood with one hand before removing the final bolt โ it is heavy and can fall without warning.

Step 3. Remove the Arms
- Remove the magnetic covers from both arms
- Use a 1/4" ratchet with 10mm socket to remove the bolts on each arm
- Detach both arms from the kiosk body

Step 4. Remove the Base Plate
- Lay the kiosk on its side on top of the shipping foam cover to prevent scratching
- Remove all 7 10mm bolts from the base plate

Step 5. Package the Kiosk
- Place all peripherals (cables, arms, base plate hardware) into the provided bag
- Place the bag and all components inside the kiosk shipping box
- Tape the box securely
- Apply the provided return shipping label
๐ SideUX Disassembly
Required tools (SideUX only):
- Small or Long Phillips Screwdriver
- Box Cutter
Do NOT use power tools โ they can permanently damage the SideUX.
If disassembling the SideUX on its own (not as part of a full kiosk disassembly), complete Step 1 โ Shutdown and Unplug Peripherals above before continuing.
Step 6. Remove the Display
- Remove the card mount
- Remove the printer bracket and disconnect the printer power adapter, then screw the bracket back into the body
- Unscrew the yellow grounding cable from the body
- Unplug all USB cables from the HUB, as well as the HDMI cable
- Remove all 6 screws holding the screen
- Carefully remove the display out of the body

Step 7. Remove the Rubber Feet
- Flip the body upside down
- Remove all 4 rubber feet
- Bag all screws and the power cable into the provided bag

Step 8. Package the SideUX
- Place the body, display, and card mount into the shipping foam, aligning each piece with the foam's designated cutouts
- Place the accessories bag between the display and body
- Place the top and middle shipping foam over the components, ensuring everything is securely held
- Slide the entire foam assembly into the shipping box
- Tape the box and apply the provided return shipping label

๐ก Tips
- Take photos of cable routing before disconnecting anything โ they're invaluable during reassembly
- Keep all screws and bolts in a labeled bag or tray so nothing gets lost
- Always lay the kiosk on the shipping foam cover when working on the base โ bare floors will scratch the chassis
- If shipping the unit, wrap the kiosk body and SideUX separately in the provided foam packaging
