How do I resolve a Possible Blocked Cam alert?
How to identify and resolve a Possible Blocked Cam alert on your Mashgin kiosk.
π Overview
A Possible Blocked Cam alert appears when the kiosk detects that a camera's view may be partially or fully obstructed. This doesn't always mean a camera is broken β most of the time it's something physical blocking the view that can be removed in seconds.
The kiosk can usually still operate while this alert is present, but recognition accuracy may be reduced until it's resolved.
π How to Resolve It
Step 1. Check for obstructions on the base
- Look at the kiosk base β check for any items, trays, bags, or debris left on or near it
- Remove anything that shouldn't be there
- Check if the alert clears on its own
Go to Manager Mode β Advanced β Calibration to get a live camera view and see exactly what each camera sees. This makes it easy to spot what's blocking it.
Step 2. Check the camera covers
If the base is clear but the alert persists, the camera covers may be dirty or smudged.
- Look up into the hood and check the camera covers for smudges, grease, or condensation
- Wipe each cover gently with a dry microfiber cloth
- If smudged, lightly dampen the cloth with 70% isopropyl alcohol and wipe again
- Check if the alert clears after cleaning
For full cleaning instructions, see How to Clean Your Kiosk
Step 3. Check for signage or objects near the hood
- Look for any signage, hanging materials, or objects positioned near or inside the kiosk hood
- Make sure nothing is dangling in front of a camera's line of sight
- Remove or reposition anything that could be interfering
Direct sunlight shining onto the base or into the hood can also trigger this alert. If the kiosk is in direct sunlight, try shading it or repositioning.
Step 4. Power cycle the kiosk
If everything looks clear but the alert is still showing:
- Navigate to Manager Mode and tap Power Off Temporarily
- Unplug both the kiosk and side screen power cables
- Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds
- Wait approximately 30 seconds
- Plug both cables back in β the kiosk will restart automatically
If the alert is still present after the power cycle, contact Mashgin Support β a camera may need further inspection.
π οΈ Troubleshooting
Alert keeps coming back
Issue: The alert clears but reappears shortly after.
Fix:
- Check for recurring obstructions β staff or customers may be setting items on or near the base
- Look for environmental factors: direct sunlight, HVAC vents blowing debris, or reflective surfaces near the kiosk
- If the alert persists with nothing visibly blocking the camera, contact Mashgin Support β a camera may need inspection
Base is clear but alert won't go away
Issue: You've removed all obstructions and cleaned the covers, but the alert is still present after a refresh and power cycle.
Fix:
- Check the calibration page to confirm all cameras show a clear, unobstructed view
- If a camera's view still looks wrong or blocked on the calibration page, contact Mashgin Support
