How to Delete Menu Items

Step-by-step guide to deleting one item or multiple items at once from your Creator menu, plus the difference between deleting and deactivating.

πŸ—‘οΈ

This guide walks you through deleting menu items in Creator β€” both single items and multiple items at once. New to Creator? Start with What is Creator?.

⚠️

Delete vs. Deactivate. Deleting an item removes it permanently and breaks any reporting tied to its history. If you only want to take an item off the menu temporarily β€” for example, if it's seasonal or out of stock β€” toggle it to Inactive instead. See How to add and edit menu items.

πŸ“‹ Overview

Use this guide when you need to permanently remove items from your menu in Creator β€” for example, after a menu refresh, when consolidating a long item list, or when an item has been replaced by a different SKU.

πŸ—‘οΈ How to Delete a Single Item

Step 1. Open the item in Creator

  1. Go to creator.mashgin.com and log in
  1. Confirm you're in the correct location (top of the screen)
  1. Use the search bar or scroll the All Items list to find the item you want to delete
  1. Click the circle to the left of the item name to open the item editor panel

🚨

This action cannot be undone. Once an item is deleted, it cannot be restored from Creator. If you're unsure, deactivate the item instead.

πŸ—‘οΈ How to Delete Multiple Items

Step 1. Select the items

  1. From the All Items list, click the checkbox to the left of each item you want to delete
  1. Selected items are highlighted; a count appears at the top of the list

Tip: Filter or sort the list before selecting (by tag, daypart, or station) to find groups of items quickly.

Step 2. Bulk delete

  1. With items selected, click Delete Selected in the top toolbar
  1. Confirm the count in the dialog matches what you expect
  1. Click Confirm to delete all selected items at once

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Export your menu first. Before any bulk deletion, export the current menu via Menu Transfer so you have a rollback file. See How do I export my menu?.
  • Deactivate is usually safer than delete. Inactive items disappear from the kiosk immediately but stay in Creator for reporting and quick reactivation later.
  • Items attached to a container. If an item is part of a container's Item Relations, deleting it will remove that link β€” the container will still appear at the kiosk but with one fewer option. Update the container after deleting linked items.

πŸ› οΈ Troubleshooting

Deleted item still appears on the kiosk

Issue: An item was deleted in Creator but it's still showing at the kiosk.

Fix:

  1. Wait 1–2 minutes β€” Creator changes sync to the kiosk automatically
  1. If the item still appears, enter Manage Mode on the kiosk and press Sync DB β€” see How do I access kiosk manage mode?
  1. Wait approximately one minute for the sync to complete and re-test

Container shows "Please See Cashier" after deleting an item

Issue: A container that previously worked now triggers a "Please See Cashier" prompt at the kiosk.

Fix:

  1. The deleted item may have been the only active item in the container's Item Relations
  1. Open the container in Creator, review Item Relations, and remove the deleted entry
  1. Add a replacement active item, save, and sync
  1. For the full troubleshooting walkthrough see Why is my container prompting "Please see a cashier"?

Reporting shows historical sales for the deleted item

Issue: Even after deletion, the item appears in past sales reports.

Fix:

  1. This is expected β€” historical transactions are preserved for accurate reporting
  1. The item just won't appear as a selectable option going forward
