Kiosk

How do I power cycle the kiosk?

Step-by-step guide for power cycling (restarting) your Mashgin self-checkout kiosk to resolve common issues like frozen screens, camera alerts, and payment errors.

๐Ÿ”Œ What is Power Cycling?

Power cycling means fully removing power from the kiosk and allowing it to discharge any remaining energy.

  • This clears temporary errors and refreshes the system โ€” similar to restarting a computer.

Estimated time: 5โ€“10 minutes total (includes wait time for the kiosk to fully restart).

โ“ When Should I Power Cycle?

Power cycling your kiosk can help resolve many common issues, including:

  • The kiosk is frozen, slow or unresponsive
  • The kiosk displays an error message that won't go away
  • Camera alerts appear (e.g. "Cameras Cannot Be Reached")
  • Payment transactions are failing repeatedly

Tip: Power cycling should be your go-to first troubleshooting step for most kiosk issues. If the issue continues after a power cycle, contact Mashgin support.

Important: Do not skip the wait time. The kiosk needs to discharge to fully clear its memory. Plugging it back in too soon may not resolve the issue.

Step 4. Reconnect and power on

  1. Plug the main power cable back into the kiosk
  1. Plug the main power cable back into the Side UX
  1. Flip the red/orange switch on the Side UX back to the ON position
  1. Press the circular power button on the back of the kiosk; it should illuminate.
  1. Allow the kiosk 2โ€“4 minutes to fully boot up

๐Ÿ’ก Tips ๐Ÿ’ก

  • Always unplug both the kiosk and the Side UX โ€” just unplugging one is not enough
  • The minimum wait time is 30 seconds, but 2โ€“3 minutes is strongly recommended for a full reset
  • After the kiosk restarts, check that the touchscreen is responsive and the Side UX displays correctly
  • If the Side UX screen looks flickery or only shows half the screen after restarting, try reseating the HDMI cable on the back of the kiosk
  • If your cameras show alerts after restarting, give them a minute to reconnect โ€” they sometimes need a moment to come back online after a power cycle

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Troubleshooting ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Kiosk Won't Turn Back On

Issue: After reconnecting the power cables and flipping the switch, the kiosk does not start up.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Make sure the power cables are firmly plugged in to both the kiosk and the Side UX
  1. Check that the outlet or power strip is working (try plugging in a different device)
  1. Press the round power button on the back of the kiosk once
  1. If the kiosk still does not turn on, contact Mashgin support

Side UX Screen is Blank or Flickering After Restart

Issue: The Side UX screen is flickering, only showing half the screen, or staying blank after the kiosk restarts.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Unplug and replug the HDMI cable on the back of the kiosk (usually the top HDMI cable)
  1. Open the silver latch on the back of the Side UX and reseat the HDMI extension cable inside
  1. If the issue continues, power cycle the kiosk again
  1. If the issue persists after a second power cycle, contact Mashgin support

Camera Alerts After Restart

Issue: Camera alerts such as "Cameras Cannot Be Reached" appear after restarting the kiosk.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Wait 2โ€“3 minutes โ€” cameras sometimes need extra time to reconnect after a restart
  1. If the alert remains, power cycle the kiosk one more time
  1. Check that no cables on the back of the kiosk have come loose
