How do I install a kiosk scale?

Step-by-step guide to unboxing, leveling, connecting, and testing a Mashgin kiosk scale.

β€Œ

πŸ“‹ Overview

Use this guide when installing a new scale on a Mashgin kiosk for price-by-weight items. Plan on roughly 10–15 minutes per scale and have the included wrench, USB cable, power adapter, and "Weigh Here" sticker on hand before you start.

Step 1. Unbox Scale & Verify Parts

Take the scale out of its box and packaging, then confirm that all components are included:

  • Scale
  • Display
  • USB cable
  • Power adapter
  • Sticker

Step 2. Remove Shipping Components & Add Sticker

  1. Flip the scale upside down and, using the provided wrench, remove the shipping screw.
  1. Remove the plastic lining on top of the scale.
  1. Place the "Weigh Here" sticker on top.

Step 3. Level the Scale

  1. Remove the cover.
  1. Set the scale on a flat, even surface.
  1. Level the scale base by twisting the four feet.

A scale that isn't level will read inaccurately at checkout. Take the time to get all four feet evenly seated before continuing.

Step 4. Connect Display & USB

  1. Connect the display indicator either on the side or under the scale.
  1. Plug in the USB cable to the side of the scale and then to the back of the kiosk.

Step 5. Weight Test

Navigate to Manage Mode β†’ Advanced β†’ Devices β†’ Test Devices β†’ Weight Scale and verify the scale reads correctly.

πŸ’‘ Tips

  • Always keep the shipping screw β€” you'll need it again if the scale is ever shipped or moved long-distance.
  • Use a USB port directly on the back of the kiosk; avoid hubs or extension cables.
  • After installing, place a known-weight item (e.g., a 1 lb bag of produce) on the scale and confirm the reading before going live.
