How do I take care of the kiosk's cameras?
A guide to routine camera care — keeping covers clean, avoiding obstructions, and knowing when to escalate.
📋 Overview
The kiosk uses cameras mounted on the arms and under the hood to identify items at checkout. Keeping the camera covers clean and free of obstructions is the single most impactful thing you can do to maintain accurate item recognition.
What you'll need:
- A Phillips screwdriver (for the hood camera cover)
- A dry microfiber cloth
- 70% isopropyl alcohol (if covers are smudged)
🧹 How to Clean the Cameras
Step 1. Check the base for obstructions
- Head to Manager Mode → Advanced → Calibration
- Look at the base — confirm no items, debris, or signage are blocking the camera's view
- Remove anything that shouldn't be there before proceeding
The calibration page gives you a live camera view, making it easy to spot anything blocking the line of sight.
Step 2. Remove and clean the arm camera covers
The camera covers on the arms are magnetized — no tools needed.
- Pull each arm camera cover off by hand
- Wipe the cover and the camera lens behind it with a dry microfiber cloth
- If smudged, lightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol and wipe again
- Snap the covers back into place — they'll click in magnetically
Step 3. Remove and clean the hood camera cover
The camera cover under the hood requires a Phillips screwdriver to remove.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws securing the hood camera cover
- Carefully remove the cover
- Wipe the cover and the camera lens behind it with a dry microfiber cloth
- If smudged, lightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol and wipe again
- Reattach the cover and replace the screws — do not overtighten
Never spray liquid directly onto the camera or cover. Always apply to the cloth first.
💡 Tips
- After cleaning, run a few test scans on the calibration page to confirm recognition looks good before returning to service
- In high-traffic or food-service environments, inspect the covers daily — grease and condensation build up quickly
- Never use paper towels on the covers — they can scratch the surface and leave lint behind
