How to Clean Your Kiosk
A step-by-step guide to safely cleaning the Mashgin kiosk base, cameras, camera covers, screen, and exterior — including what products to use and what to avoid.
🧽 What to Use
Safe:
- Microfiber cloths
- 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes
- Mild soap on a cloth
Avoid:
- Paper towels or abrasive cloths
- Bleach, ammonia, or aerosol sprays
- Excessive moisture near ports or vents
Never spray liquid directly onto the kiosk. Always apply to a cloth first.
🧹 Cleaning Steps
Step 1. Clean the scanning base
- Remove all items from the base
- Wipe with a lightly dampened microfiber cloth in smooth, overlapping strokes
- Let it dry fully before resuming
Do not scrub the dotted calibration pattern — light wiping only.
Step 2. Clean the camera covers
The kiosk has camera covers on the arms (magnetized — no tools needed) and under the hood (requires a Phillips screwdriver).
- Arm covers: Pull each cover off by hand, wipe the cover and the lens behind it with a dry microfiber cloth, then snap back in place
- Hood cover: Unscrew with a Phillips screwdriver, wipe the cover and lens, then reattach and tighten screws — do not overtighten
- If either cover is smudged, lightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol before wiping

Step 3. Clean the screen and exterior
- Wipe the screen gently with a lightly dampened microfiber cloth
- Wipe down the tower, hood, and areas around peripherals (scanner, card reader, scale)
- Avoid getting moisture into any ports or vents
💡 Tips
- Clean the base and camera covers daily in food-service environments
- After cleaning, run a few test scans to confirm recognition is working
- If recognition doesn't improve after cleaning, the kiosk may need recalibration — contact Mashgin Support
