How do I load a roll of thermal printer paper?

Replace an empty thermal printer roll — open the cover, drop the new roll in, close it, and run a test print to confirm the printer is feeding paper.

📋 Overview

Use this guide whenever the thermal printer runs out of paper or you're swapping in a new roll during routine maintenance. The whole process takes under a minute — open the cover, drop the new roll in, close it, and run a quick test print to confirm everything's feeding correctly.

Step 1. Open Printer & Remove Used Roll

  1. Press the large gray button on the top of the printer to open the cover.
  1. Remove the used paper core

Step 2. Insert New Roll

  1. Insert the new roll into the printer with the excess feeding underneath the roll.
  1. Pull out some of the excess paper.
  1. Close the cover firmly with the excess paper hanging out — you should hear it click into place once it's securely closed.

⚠️

Loading the roll the wrong way (excess feeding over the top of the roll) is the most common reason the printer prints blank receipts. Thermal paper only prints on one side.

Step 3. Test Feed & Print

  1. Press the Feed button on the top of the printer to feed a small amount of paper through the slot.
  1. Navigate to Manage Mode → Advanced → QC Scripts → Printer.
  1. Press Print Test Page.

💡 Tips

  • Keep a spare roll near each kiosk so you can swap mid-shift without disrupting checkout.
  • If the test page comes out blank, the roll is loaded upside down — thermal paper only prints on the side facing the print head.
  • Save the empty paper core if your store recycles cardboard.
