Kiosk Zero: Kitchen Mode Breakdown

A section-by-section map of Kitchen Mode on Kiosk Zero — order tabs, tablet vs. mobile order sources, sorting and filtering by station, adding orders, cancelling orders (and refund behavior), and kitchen receipt printing.

📋 Overview

Kitchen Mode on Kiosk Zero is the staff-facing view for managing incoming orders. Kitchen staff can view, start, complete, and cancel orders that arrive from the tablet (Order Mode) or from mobile ordering.

To switch to Kitchen Mode: Enter Manager Mode → tap Settings → tap Mode → select Kitchen Mode.

🗂️ Order Tabs

Kitchen Mode organizes orders across four tabs at the top of the screen.

All

Displays every order regardless of status — current, completed, and scheduled.

Current

Shows all orders that have not yet been completed.

  • Tap Start to indicate an order is being prepared — the order header turns purple.
    • Notion image
  • Tap Stop to return the order to its previous state (gray header).
    • Notion image
  • Tap Complete to mark the order as done and move it to the Completed tab.

Completed

  • Completed orders appear here with a green header.
    • Notion image
  • Toggle Show Cancelled Items to show or hide cancelled orders.
    • Cancelled orders display with a red header.

Scheduled

Displays all orders scheduled for a future pickup time. Use this tab to preview upcoming orders before they become active.

🖥️ Order Sources

Kiosk Zero Kitchen Mode can display orders from two sources simultaneously:

  • When both boxes are highlighted in purple in the display filter, both order types are visible simultaneously.

🔀 Sorting & Filtering

Notion image

1. Stations

Use the Stations dropdown to filter the order list by station, so kitchen staff only see orders relevant to their station.

2. Order List

Use the Order List control to sort orders by:

  • Newest first — most recently placed orders appear at the top.
  • Oldest first — orders placed earliest appear at the top.

➕ Adding an Order

Tap the purple (+ New Order) button in the bottom-right corner of Kitchen Mode to manually add a new order directly from the kitchen view — without going through the customer-facing Order Mode.

❌ Cancelling Orders

Orders can be canceled from Kitchen Mode by tapping into an order and selecting Cancel.

⚠️

Refund behavior: Canceling an order always cancels the order and attempts to refund the transaction if a payment has already been collected. If no payment was attached (e.g., the order was placed without a payment reader), only the order is canceled. No refund is attempted.

💡

Canceled orders remain visible in the Completed tab when Show Canceled Items is toggled on, displayed with a red header for reference.

🧾 Kitchen Receipt Printing

When an order is placed, a kitchen receipt can automatically print to your kitchen printer — giving staff a physical ticket to reference while preparing the order.

Kitchen receipt printing is controlled by printer rules configured in Manager Mode (Order Mode), not from within Kitchen Mode itself.

💡

For instructions on setting up kitchen printer rules, see Kiosk Zero: How to Setup Receipt Rules. If you use a dedicated KDS tablet, skip the kitchen printer rule on your Kiosk Zero order tablet — configure receipt routing on the KDS instead.

⚙️ Kitchen Mode Settings

Tap the gear ⚙️ icon in the bottom-right corner of Kitchen Mode to access Kitchen Mode settings, including display preferences and mode-specific configurations.
